"If You Could Read My Mind" was Gordon Lightfoot's first single to crack the US or UK top 40. It has been covered by dozens of artists, from Barbra Streisand to Johnny Cash, and has been used in various soundtracks, including Paperback Hero, a classic slice of Canadiana. It placed seventh in Bob Mersereau's The Top 100 Canadian Singles book and second in the 1992 Mar*Star poll.
