Twenty-five years ago, the Mar*Star – a small, family newsletter that I edited – decided to poll its readers and some people in the business to determine Canada's greatest songs and albums, as a celebration of Canada's 125th birthday.
As far as I can tell, that was the first time anyone had ever tried such a thing; since then, a number of magazines, newspapers, websites and the like have undertaken similar exercises, including Chart magazine on three occasions and the Mar*Star again in 2011. Bob Mersereau even wrote two books, The Top 100 Canadian Albums and The Top 100 Canadian Singles, on the topic.
In celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, I invited my Facebook friends to help me choose the 150 greatest Canadian songs and albums.
On this site, I will countdown the final selections, unveiling them over the 150 days leading up to Canada Day.
