Gordon Lightfoot – Sundown

"Sundown" is the title track from Gordon Lightfoot's 1974 album. It was an immediate hit, topping the singles charts in both Canada and the US, and reaching top 40 around the world. The song frequently appears on lists of the best Canadian songs of all time:

"Sundown," purportedly inspired by Lightfoot's troubled relationship with Cathy Smith, who later became more famous for her involvement in John Belushi's death, has been recorded by several other artists, including Jesse Winchester, who recorded it for a Lightfoot tribute album, Deryl Dodd, who had a country hit with it in 1999, and Elwood, who had a hip-hop hit with it in 2000, and is included in the live repertoire of many country musicians.
