"Ordinary Day" was released as the second single from Great Big Sea's third album, Play. The Janie mentioned in the lyrics was inspired by Jann Arden, according to Alan Doyle. The song ranked 76th in CBC Radio's greatest song list in 2014.
We've seen Great Big Sea live a number of times, including at the John Labatt Centre in London about a decade ago, with Tracy's boss and his wife, and at the Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener in 2013, with a bunch of our friends – and, both of those times, they opened with "Ordinary Day."
