k.d. lang – A Truly Western Experience

A Truly Western Experience is the debut album from k.d. lang and the Reclines. This album came out of the Edmonton scene that seemed determined to bridge country and punk music, along with the likes of Jr. Gone Wild and Jerry Jerry and the Sons of Rhythm Orchestra.

While k.d. lang didn't win over the U.S. critics with her first album – AllMusic gave it 3 stars out of 5 and the New Rolling Stone Album Guide only 2, she gained notice in Canada with singles / videos for "Bopalena" and "Hanky Panky," as well as for her claim to be Patsy Cline reincarnated and the country / punk music she and her backing band, the Reclines (get it?), dished out at boisterous college concerts, including a memorable one at the University of Waterloo's Fed Hall.
