"Political" was recorded twice in the studio by Spirit of the West: acoustically in 1988 for their Labour Day album and electrified in 1991 for their Go Figure album. The latter version was also released as a CD single (backed with "Home for a Rest," "Sad But True" and "Again and Again and Again") and received some airplay in Canada, though fans clamoured for the original version.
"Political" was included in Chart magazine's list of best Canadian songs ever in 1996 and 2000, in CFNY's Top 1002 New Rock Songs of All Time in 1999, and in the Mar*Star's 2011 top Canadian song list.
