Spirit of the West – Home for a Rest

"Home for a Rest" is the second track on Spirit of the West's Save This House album. I'm not sure whether it was released as a single in 1990 (as Wikipedia contradictingly claims) or not until April 14, 2014, as Discogs reports, but I do know that it was a hit on university radio, is still a favourite at wedding receptions, hockey dances and the like, compelling even wallflowers like me to get up to dance and shout "take me home," and was given the video treatment circa Spirituality 1983-2008.

Although "Home for a Rest" didn't rate in any of the Chart polls, it has appeared in most great Canadian song lists since: 22nd in CBC's 50 Tacks: The Canadian Edition, 89th in Bob Mersereau's The Top 100 Canadian Singles, 3rd in the 2011 Mar*Star poll, and 23rd in Huffington Post's 100 Best Canadian Songs Ever.

Tracy and I have seen Spirit of the West perform "Home for a Rest" live on at least two occasions, but perhaps the most memorable performance we've seen was from the Mudmen moshpit at the festival in Kincardine.
