"Old Man," one of his most popular acoustic numbers, is a single taken from Neil Young's Harvest album. With the live "The Needle and the Damage Done" on the flip side and as the follow-up to his chart-topping "Heart of Gold" single, "Old Man" was a top ten hit in Canada and a top forty hit in the United States. Almost every time that we have seen Young play, he has performed "Old Man," which isn't surprising, since it is the third most performed song of his career (according to setlist.fm).
Bob Mersereau placed "Old Man" / "The Needle and the Damage Done" at 73 in his The Top 100 Canadian Singles book in 2008 and CBC placed it 27th in their 100 Best Canadian Songs Ever in 2014, yet, interestingly, "Old Man" is not shown as having any Canadian content in the RPM 100 Singles charts from 1972.
Note: When totalling the votes for this poll, I was tempted to add those for "The Needle and the Damage Done" to the "Old Man" total, since they are flip sides of the same single, which would have pushed the song(s) into the top 20; however, this is about songs rather than singles, so each must stand on its own.
