Harmonium was the debut album by the band of the same name, a folk guitar trio from Montreal, who began to incorporate progressive rock into their sound.
While AllMusic gives it only 3 stars out of 5, Harmonium was a huge commercial success, selling over 150,000 copies in Québec in two months, and has garnered much critical praise: Bob Mersereau ranks it number 77 in The Top 100 Canadian Albums, Éric Trudel includes it among Les 101 Disques qui ont marqué le Québec, and Rolling Stone named Si On Avait Besoin D'Une Cinquieme, Harmonium's follow-up, as the 36th greatest prog rock album of all-time.
While "Pour un instant" and "Harmonium," both ranked in this list of best Canadian songs of all-time, were released as singles, Québec radio stations tended to play the entire album, so Québecois of a certain age seem to know all eight songs included on the record.
