Lost Together is Blue Rodeo's fourth album and, in my opinion, their best. (What it is doing way down in the 50s on this list is beyond me.) While it doesn't have the fan favourite songs of some of their other albums, it does feature the best lineup of musicians (including Bob Wiseman, on his way out, and Glenn Milchem and Kim Deschamps, on their way in) and a solid set of songs, including five Canadian hit singles – "Lost Together" (#3), "Rain Down on Me" (#11), "Angels" (#75), "Flying" (#42) and "Already Gone" (#32), and "Fools Like You," an impassioned defence of Native rights.
I remember seeing Blue Rodeo play at Stages in downtown Kitchener right after Wiseman's departure and we actually left before the encore because his absence was a bigger presence than any of the people who were there. (Now, we have seen them quite a few times since and have enjoyed the shows, though "Diamond Mine" always leaves me missing Wiseman.)
AllMusic gave Lost Together four stars (out of five), calling it "easily the best Blue Rodeo album to date" and saying you can "hit the random button on the disc player and no matter where the laser touches down, you're assured a worthwhile listening experience."
