"Famous Blue Raincoat," the sixth track on Leonard Cohen's third album, Songs of Love and Hate, is written as a letter from "L. Cohen" to "my brother, my killer" about a love triangle also featuring "Jane."
Although never released as a single, it is generally considered among Cohen's best compositions, ranking 23rd in Chart magazine's 2005 poll of top Canadian singles, and has been covered by numerous artists, including Jennifer Warnes and Tori Amos. Strangely, for many of us, it was Warnes's cover of the song, on her album that bore its name, that brought it to the forefront.
