"Your Sister Cried" is the final track off Fred Eaglesmith's eleventh album, 2002's Falling Stars and Broken Hearts. As with many of Eaglesmith's best lyrics, it implies a story, ambiguous and open-ended.
At several family gatherings – most notably my brother Rick's 60th birthday party, we've spent the late-night/early-morning hours debating whether Mary Gauthier's cover version is better than Fred Eaglesmith's original or whether this is even Eaglesmith's best song (other noteworthy contenders include Lipstick Lies & Gasoline's "Spookin' the Horses," "Time To Get a Gun" and "Water in the Fuel" and 6 Volts' "Johnny Cash"), but this one includes the great Willie P. Bennett in the band.
