The McKenna Mendelson Mainline were an early Canadian supergroup, formed in summer 1968 and consisting of guitarist Mike McKenna from Luke & the Apostles and the Ugly Ducklings, harmonica player Joe Mendelson, an acoustic blues artist, drummer Tony Nolasco of the Spassicks, and bassist Denny Gerrard of the Paupers (replaced later that year by Mike Harrison from Grant Smith & the Power).
They debuted at the Night Owl in Toronto's Yorkville Village in August, recorded live demos in September (later released as McKenna Mendelson Blues), opened for the Fugs at Massey Hall in October and the Jeff Beck Group at Detroit's Grande Ballroom in November, and then embarked for Europe, where they recorded their debut album, Stink, in April of 1969.
"One Way Ticket," the first track from Stink, was released as a single, though "Better Watch Out" actually achieved more commercial success, reaching #4 on the Canadian Content charts and top 60 on the RPM Top 100.
