"Patio Lanterns" was the first of four singles released from Kim Mitchell's third solo album, Shakin' Like a Human Being. It became his biggest hit to that date, surpassing 1984's "Go for Soda," and has become a staple of rock radio and Canadian summers. At the 1987 Juno Awards, "Patio Lanterns" was nominated as Single of the Year and Mitchell received his third straight nomination as Male Vocalist of the Year.
Tracy and my brother-in-law Luke McCaffrey once had to hum the song during a game of Cranium, but no one else was able to recognize it, even though CBC Radio listed it as the 96th greatest Canadian song ever.
