"Things I Do for Money" was the second single released from Northern Pikes' debut album, Big Blue Sky, and the second song to reach the Canadian charts. The song combined evocative slightly progressive lyrics with chunking post-new wave guitar in great 1980s fashion. The success of the album and songs earned the band gigs opening for the likes of David Bowie, Duran Duran, and the Fixx.
"Things I Do for Money" has made both previous Mar*Star lists, placing 5th in 1992 and 40th in 2011.
