Sloan – Underwhelmed

"Underwhelmed" was the first single released from Sloan's major label debut, Smeared (although they had previously recorded it for a local compilation and included it on their Peppermint EP). Not only was "Underwhelmed" the first hit for Sloan, it was also the first song they ever played as a group, at their first show in February 1991, at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

"Underwhelmed" is a perennial crowd favourite (I found myself yelling for it when I saw them with Tracy, Charlotte and Luke at the Kincardine Scottish Festival in 2016; of course, Sloan obliged, reserving it for the closing number of their set) and perennial pick on best ever Canadian lists:
