Michel Rivard – Un trou dans nuages

Un trou dans nuages is Michel Rivard's fourth solo album after the demise of the immensely popular Beau Dommage in 1978 (his fifth overall). It earned Rivard two Felix awards in 1988, for Male Singer of the Year and Pop Show of the Year, and "Le privé" was nominated for Video of the Year. The album is included in Éric Trudel's 101 disques qui ont marqué le Québec.

Despite the commercial and critical success of Un trou dans nuages, Rivard never made another album like this ("C'est le seul album où j'ai mis des synthétiseurs comme ça"), instead returning to his acoustic guitar and more folk-oriented material.

This album sounds very much like it was recorded in 1987 – with syntheized drums and bass – and I don't understand the words, so it doesn't get as much play around my house as it did when I bought it, right after Tracy and I saw Rivard (with Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N'Dour, k.d. lang and Daniel Lavoie) at the Human Rights Now! concert in Montreal, back in September 1988.
