Although Apologies to the Queen Mary is Wolf Parade's first full-length album, many of the songs were previously covered on the band's three earlier EPs. Wolf Parade presents a two-headed front with Dan Boeckner (more traditional) and Spencer Krug (more unhinged) each writing and taking lead vocals on half of the tracks.
Apologies to the Queen Mary was eagerly anticipated and met with critical acclaim. It was shortlisted for the 2006 Polaris Music Prize, heralded by many magazines as one of the best albums of the 2000s, included at #27 in CBC Radio's list of the 100 Greatest Canadian Albums, and received generally positive reviews:
Although no singles were released from the album, Krug's "I'll Believe in Anything" is often cited as one of the great indie rock songs of the decade, while Boeckner's "This Heart's on Fire" makes him a candidate for New Springsteen of the year.
