Music for the Hard of Thinking, the third album from Vancouver's Doug & the Slugs, was released in Canada in 1982 on their own label, before getting a major label (RCA) release internationally in 1983.
Music for the Hard of Thinking earned Doug & the Slugs some overdue recognition. They were nominated as the Most Promising Group of the Year at the 1983 Juno Awards, losing out to the Payola$, and the album peaked at number 22 on the Canadian album charts. AllMusic even gives it 4 stars out of 5.
My personal preference is for Cognac and Bologna, but Music for the Hard of Thinking did spawn three bubblegum-inspired singles: "Who Knows How to Make Love Stay" (#25), "Making It Work" (#29) and "Nobody but Me."
