With Jaune, Jean-Pierre Ferland transformed himself from a traditional chansonnier to a rock star, like Robert Charlebois before him. The album has been called Quebec’s Sgt. Pepper’s and is included in virtually all lists of the greatest Quebec albums of all-time, including Éric Trudel's 101 disques qui ont marqué le Québec. AllMusic calls it a masterpiece and scores it 4.5 stars out of 5.
Jaune sold more than 60,000 copies in 1971 and spawned several FM radio hits, including "Le Petit Roi," which remains a classic throughout the French-speaking world, and "Le Chat du café des artistes," which is arguably his greatest song. It ranked 71st in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book, The Top 100 Canadian Albums.
