Everything I Long For, the sophomore release from Hayden, was primarily self-played and self-recorded in his Thornhill bedroom on four-track. Difficult to classify (is it grunge? post-punk? folk? singer-songwriter?), it wasn't as much commercially successful as it was heralded by the critics:
Everything I Long For ranked 66th in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book, The Top 100 Canadian Albums.
Kieran Joyes introduced me to this album and I immediately fell in love with the song-writing, so much so that I found the lyrics online, printed them out and still keep them tucked inside the jewel case. Several of the songs particularly appealed to me, including "Bad as They Seem," which was released – in a truncated form – as a single, "We Don't Mind" – my most-played track from the album – about skipping work with a girlfriend, and "My Parent's House," which is about remembering staying in bed all day with a former girlfriend.
