Hammer on a Drum is the third album by Payola$ (note that there was a $ instead of the "s" and no "The"). It peaked at #26 on the RPM album chart in the fall of 1983 and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 1984 Juno Awards. AllMusic gives Hammer on a Drum 3 stars (out of 5) and says "the maturity of the band begins to take shape with songs that blend bouncy choruses and energetic rhythms together, showing that they have progressed thoroughly."
Four singles were released from the album: "Never Said I Loved You" (credited to Payola$ with Carole Pope, reached #8 on the RPM singles chart), "Where Is This Love" (with "I Am a City" on the flip side), "Christmas Is Coming" / "I'll Find Another (Who Can Do It Right)" (with either one listed as the A side in different pressings), and "Wild West" (with "Perhaps Some Day" on the flip side).
