Crash Vegas – Red Earth

Red Earth is the debut album from Crash Vegas, a band formed by Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor and his girlfriend, Michelle McAdorey, along with Jocelyne Lanois, formerly of Martha and the Muffins, and Ambrose Pottie, although by the time of Red Earth, Keelor had been edged out of the band and replaced with Colin Cripps. The album drew immediate comparisons to Cowboy Junkies, 10,000 Maniacs, Blue Rodeo and even The Band.

AllMusic gives it 4.5 stars out of 5 and calls it "a seemingly effortless alt-country masterpiece" and "a must-own." The album peaked at #51 on the RPM album charts in Canada and did not chart in the U.S., where it was released on Atlantic Records.

Three singles from Red Earth charted in Canada: "Inside Out" (#18), "Sky" (#69) and, my favourite, "Smoke" (#82).
