Sloan – Twice Removed

Twice Removed, Sloan's second album, steers away from the grunge rock of its predecessor, a move that ultimately led to them losing their record deal. It was nominated for the 1995 Juno award as Best Alternative Album and, in 2015, won the Polaris Heritage Prize for the 1990s. It peaked at #25 on the Canadian RPM album charts.

Twice Removed topped Chart magazine's "Great Canadian Music" poll in both 1996 and 2005 (it was third in 2000), placed #14 in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book The Top 100 Canadian Albums and #7 in CBC Radio's list of the 100 Greatest Canadian Albums, and generally received warm reviews:

• AllMusic gave it 4.5 stars out of 5, calling it "a clever and varied collection of smart and catchy pop songs"
• Robert Christgau graded it a B+, calling them "talented boys often with something thoughtful to say about feelings"

Two singles were released from Twice Removed: "Coax Me" (#30 top singles, #6 CanCon) and "People of the Sky" (#58 top singles, #4 CanCon).
